Broughton Archipelago III

Stream ecology is also being severely affected by prevailing logging practices that diminish, and in many cases obliterate, salmon runs in the Broughton Archipelago and along other mainland and Vancouver Island coastal areas. This reality has been affecting fish runs in these areas for almost a hundred years.

Much of the timber logged in the area of the Broughton is processed at the mill on Discovery Passage in Campbell River, scheduled to permanently close late in 2008. Trees are still being felled in B.C. forests, however, but increasingly shipped for processing in countries such as China and the US.

An image overlooking that pulp and paper mill has been included, as have a small selection of images taken in Beaver Cove, Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island. Telegraph Cove is across from, and the closest access point by road to launch a boat to, the Broughton Archipelago.
