Introduction (2001 - )
Since 2001 Zeigler has been developing a series of images primarily related to ecological degradation in British Columbia's marine habitats. Although specific to British Columbia, Canada, the issues addressed are of concern throughout the world, as water habitats are increasingly threatened and wild fish stocks are declining worldwide.
In these artworks Zeigler has been considering how conventional modes of representation of land and “landscape” continue to make our relationship to the land problematic. She has been investigating new approaches to imaging available through digital technologies, and in selected images, issues related to the objective through the subtle combining and altering of images. Also considered in this work, is the way in which individual and collective identity become evident through land usage, and how these identities are impacted by language, science, politics, popular culture, and economics.
